Word Clouds Are The BOMB! Create Fast, Fun, Easy & Free Custom Design Elements!

Fast, Fun, Easy & Free; four words every Scrapbooker likes to see when looking for a new embellishment or focal point for one of their layouts.  With that in mind, I’m going to share with you one of my favorite custom elements and how you can create them fast, easy, and for free with an online word cloud generator!  Online word cloud generator, you ask???  Let me explain…

Chompin’ Drama!

For anyone not familiar with word clouds, they are basically an image or a shape that is composed of words used to convey a particular theme or subject, and normally the size and frequency of the words used in the shape denote the importance and relation to the subject.

Wow that’s a whole lot of words to say it’s using words to fill in cool shapes!  Anyways, they are really fun to play around with and are a great way to add some personalized custom elements to your layouts.  I’ve always been drawn to word clouds as a great way to title or theme a page without having to resort to putting a formal title across the layout in big bold letters.  They can be much more subtle than a formal title and really do add depth and visual interest to your layouts.

Finding a word cloud generator is also super easy.  Just type “word cloud generator” into your internet search and check out all the great options.  Lots of sites are out there and each one is a little different so be sure to check them all out and find the one that fits your particular vision.  Most sites offer basic word clouds for free and most also have access to premium content (high resolution graphics, etc) for a small fee.  The possibilities are endless and they are super-fast and fun!  So, if you haven’t already tried word clouds in your projects give them a try, and if you have used them in a layout or on a card, share a picture of them with our Facebook group:  https://www.facebook.com/scrapdivaretreats/ so we can all be inspired by your creativity!

I (HEART) SCRAPBOOKING!

Heartspiration!

With Valentine’s Day fast approaching I thought I’d take a moment and go over one of my favorite scrapbook and craft embellishments… the HEART!

Embellishing your projects with hearts is a great way to convey feelings such as affection, love, passion, and health.  They are also super versatile; you can add an arrow through the center to represent emotions like love struck or romance or break them in two to represent sadness or separation.  Shapes of the hearts can also be used to communicate things; for instance, two pink hearts with one smaller than the other can mean “love is in the air” and likewise a heart inside of another heart can be used to signify big love or a growing love for something.  Likewise, different colors can be used with the same heart shape to convey different meanings.  A yellow heart can be used to represent friendship or compassion.  A blue heart can can be a great way to denote loyalty and peace and a purple heart can be used to symbolize honor and sacrifice.   I just really love anything that can have so many different meanings and be so adaptable and for me nothing is better than the HEART!  So bust out those heart stamps, die cuts, and Cri-cut cartridges and express your (RED HEART) of scrapbooking.

I got the inspiration for this art journal page from a book I’ve been reading called “Love What Is” by Byron Katie. It’s about accepting reality and being at peace with the present moment. It’s been giving me some great art journaling ideas.

Last weekend I started scrapbooking a birthday gift album for a friend, her twins turned four years old. When I scrapbook gift albums I like to keep the pages simple and classic. I used some Cricut cartridges to make the embellishments for this scrapbook page.

Come scrapbook with us at our day crop at Scrap Diva Retreats on February 4th if you are available. I would love to see you! You can RSVP here on our meetup.

Scrapbook Pages Using Paints, Stencils & Stamps & 2017 Calendar Rollout

Hi everyone, I hope you are having a fantastic week and you are getting a lot of scrapbook pages done! I plan on sending the 2017 calendar rollout in the newsletter tomorrow. If you aren’t already on the newsletter list make sure to email me at Kelly@scrapdivaretreats and I will add you to the newsletter.

Recently I’ve been excited about using paints, stencils and stamps to create more artistic scrapbook pages. Below are a few of these scrapbook layouts.

This scrapbook technique focuses on choosing either one or two photos to highlight. Then you get to have fun using products such as Dylusions paints, Dina Wakley paints along with stencils and stamps to make stunning art scrapbook pages. It’s a great way for you to spice up a scrapbook page. I call this an art scrapbook page. It’s a cross between creating a layout that feels artsy and a scrapbook page!

Scrap Divas at the Scrapbook Expo – Anaheim

We had a fabulous time at the Scrapbook Expo in Anaheim last weekend!

Scrapbook Expo

We reserved four tables at the Saturday night crop so that we could all scrapbook together. The expo crops are always so much fun because you can shop and crop in the same convention center the entire day! What could be better then shopping and cropping until you drop?

Scrap Diva – Toy

One of the great parts about attending an expo crop is meeting new people and making new friends who enjoy this amazing hobby. We had a couple new Divas join us during our crop this year!

If you’ve never gone to a scrapbook expo I highly recommend checking it out. In fact, the Ontario, California Expo is coming up on  November 4th-5th 2016. If we have enough Divas request it, Scrap Diva Retreats might reserve another set of tables at the next scrapbook expo so be sure to subscribe to our newsletter if you want to be notified of where we are scrapbooking next. We would love to scrapbook with you soon!

The expo offers a ton of vendors who have the latest and greatest new products and awesome new tools. There’s an entire day dedicated to make-and-takes and there’s plenty of scrapbook classes that you can take to inspire your crafting.

During a scrapbook crop there’s never a dull moment! Everyone brings whatever scrapbook pages and/or craft projects they’re working on we all get to scrapbook in a huge convention center together with 500 other crafters!

Throughout the entire crop the expo gives a way a ton of prizes and there’s fun contests going on. The theme of this crop was “slumber party”. We decided to wear the new “I’m not a Princess I’m a Scrap Diva” t-shirts along with PJ bottoms.

New #CHASHOW Products

Mixed Media

Hi everyone, Karen helped me out this year at CHA and she wrote this awesome blog post about her favorite products! Check it out below.

Karen’s  Favorite New Products at CHA
There were so many great scrapbook and mixed media products to see at the CHA show!

There were products I knew I “needed” and knew I would get them for sure… one way or another!

Then there were the products that looked fun and maybe I would get them or at least play with them if they were readily available and I could get them for a good deal.

How do I choose my favorites?

Well let’s start with the products I actually played with. Ranger’s new Distress Crayons. There are 3 sets of 6 colors for now, distressed, brights and earth tones. They are so smooth and go on great, as Tim says, sort of like lip stick. They can be smudged or used as water colors and be used on light or dark colors. Can’t wait to play with my own!

Ranger also released some new mini stencils. Basically, all the originals in a smaller sizes. They will come 3 to a package. Tim also designed some stamps that are miniature crazy birds! He also has stamps that are crazy cats! Although, I’m not a cat person, they still look fun.
Dyan Reavely has 6 new colors of Dylusions Paints. These paints are so so rich and creamy. I love them!

How To Create A Gorgeous Tag Using Texture Paste and Distress Ink

I had a fabulous time this weekend creating some awesome new technique tag videos! I plan on sharing a new video every week. Please sign up for my YouTube Channel here: http://bit.ly/1TeEJLF

In this first technique video, I share with you how to create a fabulous art quote tag using texture paste and distress inks. My favorite thing about Ranger Distress Paste is that it absorbs color whereas other paste typically acts as a resist to inks.

Here are the supplies I used in the video:

Ranger Craft Sheet

Ranger Distress Inks: Seedless Preserve, Salty Ocean, Picked Raspberry

Ranger Texture Paste

Ranger Stickles: Starry Night, Aqua, Glam Pink

Ranger Mini Round Ink Blending Tools

Ranger Distress Stain: Dusty Concord

In my next video I’m going to share with you the difference between Ranger’s Texture Paste and Prima’s Texture Paste so be sure to subscribe to my YouTube channel: http://bit.ly/1TeEJLF Thank you for watching! Please share with your friends.

Got extra stickers? Try this amazing scrapbook technique!

What can you do with all those mismatched stickers? Paint over them!!!

If you have some stickers that don’t match or you don’t like the color you can easily paint right over them using Dylusions paints and Ranger’s mini ink blending tool! The great part about this is you scrap your stash while making those stickers go further.

Step 1. Put your title down and use the mini ink blending tool to color over the stickers.

Step 2. Your stickers will now work as “double duty”! Pull off the stickers and use the new title on another page!

Extra Stickers on Scrapbook Page

I had fun using the bright bold Dylusions colors on these scrapbook pages. The colors are vibrant and fun! I painted these scrapbook pages using a variety of stencils and Dylusions paints which are sold at Scrap Diva Retreats. Check them out the next time you scrapbook with us.

One Hit Wonder Scrapbook Page – On the Boardwalk

One of my favorite parts about the Shop Hop is all the awesome 6X6 scrapbook layouts you get to collect. I used some of the materials from the make-n-takes to create larger 12X12 layouts. It was fun being creative to see how many different looks I could create with the extra scraps.
