Day 3 – Be Thankful For the Difficult Times

Be thankful for the difficult times.
During those times you grow.

I’ve certainly had a lot of character building experiences in my life! But I’m thankful for every single situation because each one has provided me with an opportunity to learn.

When I reflect on the worst moments in my life I can see clearly that each moment provided me with a blessing and helped shape the strength and character of the woman I am today. Every time I have stopped fighting with difficult times and instead turned to face them with words of gratitude, I have found: growth, acceptance and ultimately peace.

Thank you for the difficult times!

Here’s my gratitude pages from today’s journal:

Day 2 – Be Thankful For the Opportunity to Learn

Be thankful when you don’t know something,

for it gives you the opportunity to learn.

I’ve always enjoyed the pleasure of learning and the sweet bliss of acquiring knowledge. I love the thrill and challenge of having no idea what the answer is and then figuring it out. One of the things I love about our scrapbook retreats is that I get to learn from the wisdom of the amazing women who retreat here.

I’m grateful for learning a plethora of things this year. Here’s a quick sample of a few things I learned in the last couple of weeks from my Scrap Divas and Friends. Thank you so much everyone!

Cooking Lessons:

– Kathy taught me how to make scones. She also taught me that I’m supposed to fill dry ingredients to the top. My whole life I’ve been filling it to the line! No wonder my cooking measurements always seemed off!

IMG_3543Making Scones

– Karen explained the difference between a dry measuring cup and a wet measuring cup
– Denise showed me that an icing bag coupler goes on the inside of the piping bag and apparently not on the outside. She also showed me how to tie the top of the bag so that I didn’t get icing everywhere.

– Angie recommended that I immediately take veggies out of the plastic bags and dry them on paper towels so that they keep longer. This actually works! It’s amazing.

Miscellaneous Lessons:

– Michele showed me how to use Dawn soap to clean and refresh a Cricut mat.

– I’ve also learned tons of amazing things this year about social media, blogging and mixed media by watching YouTube videos.

– I learned you shouldn’t mix cool acrylic colors with warm colors until they are dry otherwise the colors turn muddy.

Gratitude Prompts

What have you learned this year? Please share with us by posting a comment. Thank you.

Day 1 – Sometimes I Thank God for Unanswered Prayers

Be thankful that you don’t already have everything you desire.

If you did, what would there be to look forward to?

I think there are at least two lessons here:

  1. Be grateful for the things you don’t have because sometimes the things you desire are things you don’t need.
  2. The more you desire, the more you will have to look forward to in your life.

I’m such a grateful person because I’ve been blessed with many unanswered prayers. When I was 14 years old I had a crush on a boy named Ryan. I wasted many nights praying that he would “go out” with me yet he never showed me any interest at all. In the end, God knew what was best for me and never answered that prayer.

As Garth Brook sings:

Sometimes I thank God for unanswered prayers
Remember when you’re talkin’ to the man upstairs
That just because he doesn’t answer doesn’t mean he don’t care
Some of God’s greatest gifts are unanswered prayers

A friend of mine once asked me in an exacerbated tone….

I thought briefly about her question and responded intuitively. I hope not! I want to learn and continue to desire things until I die. There is always something more I want to learn, read, and try out. The more I learn the more I realize that life holds miraculous things that I want to learn more about! Desire is not a bad thing it propels us forward in life and gives us purpose.

I Want To:

– Consistently exercise, meditate, eat healthy and sleep well

– Send out positive energy of joy and love to the world

– Shine bright and give others permission to do the same

– Travel more, write a memoir and inspire others to rise above their circumstances

– Be an impactful leader in my niche as a Compliance Officer

– Inspire others to pursue their artistic passions, learn new art techniques and teach

– Develop a supportive SoCal female entrepreneur community

– Meet amazing artists, participate in art retreats and attend meditation retreats

– Spend Sunday afternoons relaxing with my husband, drinking a cup of coffee and playing a game of chess

– Attend Mass more frequently, pray more consistently and volunteer in my community

Sunrise steps

Having desires, goals, aspirations and dreams helps me have a zest for life. I have a pleasurable tendency to get seduced by learning new things and each time this occurs I get swept up with a strong passion to wake up every morning and learn even more things.

So today I am extremely grateful that I don’t have everything I desire because it affords me with a plethora of things to look forward to.

Gratitude Prompts

– What is an unanswered prayer that you are grateful for?

– What do you desire that you are grateful you don’t yet have?

Gratitude Changes Everything

Gratitude helps you to grow and expand; gratitude brings joy and laughter into your life and into the lives of all those around you.” – Eileen Caddy

This afternoon I surprised my friends Antonia and Brooke by taking them out for a quick lunch break and giving them a homemade gratitude journal!

Gratitude Journal Gifts

Gratitude changes everything.

This is something I’ve heard for years yet just recently started to incorporate into my daily life. For the past month now I have been listing 5 things that I’m grateful for every day  and 5 things that I’m proud of on my iPhone. I plan on taking my lists and adding them to this new gratitude journal as I start to prepare for Thanksgiving.

It has been a phenomenal experience thus far and I cannot wait to share my journey with you!

I’m officially kicking off this gratitude project to celebrate the 12 days before Thanksgiving! So from November 15th– 26th I will be posting a stanza from this Thankful Poem and sharing with you my thoughts about gratitude. I will also be sharing with you:

– 5 things I’m grateful for

– 5 things I’m proud of

–  Gratitude prompts

–  Gratitude quotes

If you want to join me on this journey of recognizing more gratitude in life please sign up here.

Thankful Poem

Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life. It turns what we have into enough, and more. It turns denial into acceptance, chaos to order, confusion to clarity. It can turn a meal into a feast, a house into a home, a stranger into a friend. Gratitude makes sense of our past, brings peace for today, and creates a vision for tomorrow. – Melody Beattie

Halloween Dessert Buffet Video

Good evening divas,

I’m excited to share with you a quick video of my dessert buffet. My homemade halloween cards and mixed media shadow box were great decoration accents on the table!

Mediation Reflections, Gratitude Journal & Conquer Summit

Happy Wellness Wednesday Everyone! This month I’m focusing on self care and sharing my journey with you on being more mindful, meditating, eating healthy and exercising. I will also be sharing with you inspirational quotes, mantras and artwork related to wellness. I hope you join me!

Monday was the kickoff of Oprah & Deepak’s FREE 21 Day Mediation Challenge on The Energy of Attraction- Manifesting Your Best Life. This will be my third mediation series but this time I plan on actually meditating EVERY night! Last time I was going to do an art journal page along with each mediation but this time I’m keeping it simple. Here’s a summary of a few key points for the last few days:

Day 1 – The energy we put out into the world is always returned to us. If we change our energy we change our entire experience with the world. If we change our intention, we change our path.

Day 2 – Our challenge is to attract our most authentic, truest desires that are within us. Those desires  flow from us and impact others positively. The highest desire we can have is to grow and evolve.

Day 3 – You already have everything you need to attain what you want. You found your sweet spot when your desires are more about “being” rather than “getting.”

Here’s a few of my desires right now:

– I want to be inspirational, helpful and effective.

– I want to be healthy in mind, body and spirit.

– I want to feel appreciated, important and valuable.

What are a few things that you desire?

On Wednesdays I’ve also been a part of this amazing group that Natalie Macneil is running called the Conquer Summit. I love Natalie’s business name “She Takes on The World.Com!!!) Every Wendesday we listen to a phenomenally successful female entrepreneur who provides some sage advice and we get to inspire one another to follow our dreams and aspirations. Tonight during the session on Financial Freedom, I walked away with a few reflection items:

– I have achieved enough to take a break, relax and find more time to simply breathe

– My compass is internal and I will know which direction to go

– Invest in yourself so you can discover your gift and share it with the world

One question that was asked:

What’s undone that’s mine to do?

I immediately blurted out the answer that I need to finish my autobiography! Of course Natalie pushed me for a due date which was timely since Suzi was just asking me about this last night. So here you go – I will complete my autobiography by March 1st, 2017. Wow…!!! That’s a little scary and at the same time totally exciting to finally have a date and stop procrastinating!!!

 5 Things I’m Grateful For – 10/17/14

1. Taking lunch and sitting in the sun.
2. Hearing the birds sing their beautiful song.
3. Meeting up with my good friend Marianna (from grad school) for an overdo “girl’s night out”.
4. Leisure time- I have the entire day off tomorrow!
5. I’m grateful for my intelligence

5 Things I’m Proud Of

1. I had a conversation with a coworker about a problem they had. They opened up to me and shared the issue. Instead of being autobiographical or providing advice I listened, was reflective and simply restated what they had said. Afterward they told me. “Thank you for really listening to me. I feel like you really care.” I hope to truly listen more often but I’m amazed at how well I did today!
2. I cleaned my entire desk and organized my work for the following week.
3. Connecting with others in a genuine way.
4. I’m proud to be an American.
5. Proud to say I have two great careers.

What were you grateful for today?

Halloween Baking Adventure

This week I decided to go on a  Halloween baking adventure and became obsessed with creating the perfect dessert table filled with homemade, delicious and gorgeous looking treats.

My first stop was the grocery store where I bought everything I thought  I needed to bake a few cupcakes and cookies. That night I went home excited to bake a few batches of cupcakes. I brought them into work the next day to frost them which was a bit more hectic…

My first attempt to frost cupcakes!

My first attempt to frost cupcakes!

Frosting cupcakes is definitely messy when you have no idea what you are doing and you stuff frosting into a cheap plastic piping bag without a coupler attached. I didn’t realize I should twist the top part of the bag to prevent the icing from coming out the back! I thought it was a pretty complicated process and got icing all over my arms. I had a blast laughing at myself at 6AM in the morning!

Cupcake Frosting Halloween

The first day the dessert buffet at work was a HUGE success. Everyone kept coming up to me saying they loved the cupcakes and they looked awesome.

Halloween Cupcakes & Cookies Day 1

So naturally I became slightly obsessed and decided to take a quick trip to Michaels for some more sophisticated cupcake piping materials. Of course everything was 70% off so I had to buy a few more things… Then I found myself back at the grocery store and found some adorable frosting colors like this vibrant purple! It was love at first site!

Halloween Desert Buffet Day 2

The Second and third day I decided to go ALL OUT! I went home and baked cupcakes and cookies until I was exhausted. Then the next day I frosted them all!  Between all three days I think it may have taken me about 7 hours to frost all the cupcakes!

Today I popped into Pier One and had to pick up a few more items because… they were on SALE  and they were ADORABLE!

I had a fancy sign made that says “Be a Friend of Compliance”! We decorated our Halloween booth for tomorrow. I’m so excited to unveil our compliance trivia game during our party! Somehow I got talked into being in the dunk tank so that will be another adventure…

Friend of Compliance

Happy Halloween everyone! I hope you enjoyed the Pics.

October Sunrise & Wellness Wednesdays Announcement

I love to get up early on the weekends before the sun rises. One of the benefits is I get to see miraculous sunrises like the one this morning.

It is peaceful and quiet because it feels like the rest of the world is still asleep. This morning the clouds were still over Murrieta and you can see the twinkling city lights below.

As the sun started to rise I got so excited that I ran up my neighbors hill to get an even better view of the expansive sunrise.

The birds were chirping their quiet morning song and a cool breeze rifled through my hair. As a snuck up the hill I walked next to a bunny who looked peacefully up at me.

During these precious moments I thank God that I can see beautiful vibrant colors. I thank God that I have an opportunity to live today and make it better than yesterday.

Gratitude Journal, Mindfulness Project & Wellness Wednesdays Kickoff

I’m excited to kickoff  this “Wellness Wednesdays” blog series. Every Wednesday you can check out my blog for a bit of wellness inspiration. I plan on sharing my journey with being more mindful, meditating, eating healthy vegetarian meals and drinking Nutribullet smoothies. I will also be sharing with you inspirational quotes, mantras and artwork related to wellness. I hope you join me!

I decided to create this blog series to encourage myself to focus more on self care, improve  my gratitude, mindfulness and overall happiness in my life. I hope that I can inspire you in some small way to see the beauty in the world, try something new or be a bit more mindful of each moment.

Gratitude Journal & Mindfulness Project

Step 1 – Every day when I wake up I’m going to ask myself 2 questions:

  1. How much pleasure can I have today?
  2. What’s the most important thing I should do today?

Step 2 – As I reflect on my day at the end, I will choose 5 things that I’m grateful for and 5 things that I’m proud of that day. My goal in documenting these is that I hope to increase my overall gratitude and my mindfulness in daily activities. The first time I blogged about gratitude was here.  I might even decide to make a scrapbook or hardbound book of the entries at the end of the year!

You are welcome to join me anytime you want and feel free to comment with your own thoughts, insights or questions.

 5 Things I’m Grateful For – 10/16/14

  1. To pull up to a beautiful house. I have lived here longer than any other house in my entire life – over 3 and a half years!
  2. Juicy sweet strawberries, blueberries and whipped cream for dessert.
  3. The inspiration I got while running on the treadmill to create a Compliance Wheel of Fortune game for our upcoming work Spooktacular Halloween party.
  4. I got home in time to scrapbook on a weekday!
  5. I’m grateful for the warmth of the sun on the left side of my face as I drive home and watch the birds flying over beautiful rolling mountains.

5 Things I’m Proud Of

  1. I didn’t get much sleep but I still worked out even though it was the last thing I felt like doing on my lunch!
  2. I worked out 2 days in a row.
  3. I’m proud that although I started off the day in a bad mood, I turned my attitude around and ended up having a fabulous day.
  4. Cleaned my house.
  5. I work hard every day.

I got the inspiration to start this project from two amazing people:
1. Oprah Winfrey- In her new book What I Know For Sure, she shares with us the life changing experience or practicing gratitude daily.

“I know for sure that appreciating whatever shows up for you in life changes your whole world… If you make time for a little gratitude every day, you’ll be amazed by the results.”

2. Nisha Moodley -During an amazing Conquer Summit session, Nisha gave us some homework and suggested we start our days off productively by asking ourselves a simple question every morning when we wake up.

What would make me proud?

Here’s where I blogged about the “3 Questions to ask yourself every day when you wake up.”

What are your proud of today?
