I (HEART) SCRAPBOOKING!

Heartspiration!

With Valentine’s Day fast approaching I thought I’d take a moment and go over one of my favorite scrapbook and craft embellishments… the HEART!

Embellishing your projects with hearts is a great way to convey feelings such as affection, love, passion, and health.  They are also super versatile; you can add an arrow through the center to represent emotions like love struck or romance or break them in two to represent sadness or separation.  Shapes of the hearts can also be used to communicate things; for instance, two pink hearts with one smaller than the other can mean “love is in the air” and likewise a heart inside of another heart can be used to signify big love or a growing love for something.  Likewise, different colors can be used with the same heart shape to convey different meanings.  A yellow heart can be used to represent friendship or compassion.  A blue heart can can be a great way to denote loyalty and peace and a purple heart can be used to symbolize honor and sacrifice.   I just really love anything that can have so many different meanings and be so adaptable and for me nothing is better than the HEART!  So bust out those heart stamps, die cuts, and Cri-cut cartridges and express your (RED HEART) of scrapbooking.

I got the inspiration for this art journal page from a book I’ve been reading called “Love What Is” by Byron Katie. It’s about accepting reality and being at peace with the present moment. It’s been giving me some great art journaling ideas.

Last weekend I started scrapbooking a birthday gift album for a friend, her twins turned four years old. When I scrapbook gift albums I like to keep the pages simple and classic. I used some Cricut cartridges to make the embellishments for this scrapbook page.

Come scrapbook with us at our day crop at Scrap Diva Retreats on February 4th if you are available. I would love to see you! You can RSVP here on our meetup.

10 Reasons to Scrapbook in 2017

10 Reasons to attend a

 Scrapbooking Retreat in 2017!

  1. A creative retreat with your friends is a great way to indulge in a little self-care. One of the great things about getting away and going to a retreat is that it gives our inner voice the permission that we think we need to take time for ourselves and do what is right for us.
  2. A creative retreat is a great opportunity to learn or try something new. Every creative person I know is always looking for new and exciting ways to exercise their creativity and retreats offer a great way to explore new things.  Retreats give you the chance to set aside some dedicated time to work on a new technique or skill and they also give you the chance to draw inspiration from the group of awesomely creative people retreating with you!
  3. Retreats help you focus and can be extremely helpful in getting your projects to the “next level.” Devoting time and focus to your projects allows you to take your projects to a level you may find out of reach when trying to be creative at home with all the distractions and busyness of daily life.
  4. Retreats are a great way to relax and de-stress. On a retreat you’ll get to enjoy a space created specifically with you in mind with plenty of room to lay out your projects and a great array of tools and products for you to use and purchase.  Retreats offer a great way for you to relax, get your projects done, and leave feeling energized.
  5. Retreats are also a great way for you to connect with friends and share your creativity. I’ve always really enjoyed seeing what other creative people are working on and how they are putting their projects together.
  6. You really deserve a break! Taking a few days out of your busy schedule can be just what you need to reflect and re-evaluate and remember what’s really important in your  Focusing on your loved ones, friends, and your relationships when doing your projects can be such a great way to get your priorities back on track.
  7. Retreats are a good time to reflect and capture your memories, accomplishments and achievements from 2016. I’ve always really liked looking at lists that have things from “the year I was born” or “the year I graduated” and often wish I’d (or my Mom or Grandma) had taken the time to create a personalized list of how life was during a particular year.
  8. Your projects are one of the greatest gifts you can give to your loved ones. My most treasured keepsakes are my scrapbooks and the pictures and stories they contain about my family and friends.  Taking the time out to get away and focus on them has been one of the things I really find rewarding.  People are always so happy to get a beautiful personalized gift and it truly is a gift that keeps on giving and only gets better with age.
  9. Retreats are a great way to make new memories. Like, This one time a Scrap Diva….
  10. Retreats are really really FUN! So don’t delay, get your group together and set up that retreat; and if you’re not part of a group but are looking to get involved with one check out one of our day crops on Meetup and join us on Facebook!

We have two upcoming Scrapbook Crops! Come join us and have some fun scrapbooking.

How to Organize an Amazing Scrapbook Retreat

First time

Let’s face it, the first time is a really big deal for every woman and it’s one that she’ll always remember… The anxiety… The anticipation… I remember my first time like it was yesterday…

Hey!  Not that first time!  I’m talking about the first time you organize a scrapbook retreat!

Recently Scrap Diva Angela had her “first time” experience organizing a retreat and she was kind enough to share her experiences and creativity with me, and since she did such a fantastic job organizing and shared some really great ideas, I’d like to share her story with you.  Her story has some great practical advice and some fun projects to help your group bond and have an enjoyable retreat. After all, a retreat is supposed to fuel your creativity and nourish your soul. Also, her story even included a dollar store shopping trip; what’s not to love!  Thank you so much for sharing your creativity and experiences with us Angela, you’re awesome and your story is Divalicious!

How to Organize an Amazing Scrapbook Retreat: Written by Angela:

Once I agreed to organize a retreat, which I had never done, the panic set in.  I was determined that this retreat would be enjoyable for everyone and stress free.  Therefore, I was very selective of the women who were invited.

Then the questions and panic set in.  What am I supposed to do? How am I supposed to do it?  The questions floating around in my head were endless.  Once I took a step back and stopped worrying, a few ideas began to surface.

The first thing I did was call us a group of  “Women In Need Of Serenity” aka W.I.N.O.S.  WINOSOnce this happened, I made a closed Facebook page just for retreat attendees. This was the easiest way for us to communicate with the each other.

The majority of us knew each other. However, a few of only knew one or two of the ladies. So I decided to host a meet and greet at a winery in Temecula.  Where else would it be?  After all we are WINOS, right?

I began posting “getting to know you questions” on the FB page and encouraged everyone to participate. Prior to the luncheon I made pocket cards.  Inside each card was a name and the answers to the “getting to know you questions”.  I threatened to ground anyone who didn’t answer the questions.  Once the threat was made I was amazed at how fast I got answers. LOL.  Each of our ladies was given one of these with instructions not to open it because the name inside was their secret pal.  They were all asked to make a pocket letter to be given to their secret pals the 1st day of the retreat. I also gave each person a decorated card.  This was to be used as a focal point for a layout to commemorate our retreat.  These two “homework” assignments turned out to be loads of fun.

I then tackled the art of etching glass.  I made each of our ladies a wine glass with our logo W.I.N.O.S.  with either a butterfly, humming bird, or flower etched on it.   After trying this I thought for a moment I’d lost my mind.  Once I got the hang of it and replaced a couple of the glasses they turned out great.   Thank goodness for the Dollar Tree. I also made goody bags, which were wine themed as well.

Another thing I did was arrange for a discount at our local scrapbook store and scheduled a “field trip” to Old Town Temecula.  Rather than worry about lunch the first day we all shopped and went to “The Bank” for lunch and margaritas.  Needless to say the letting your hair down started as we made our deposits.  Just so you know, what was once a bank is now a Mexican food restaurant.Angie's Divas

Once we returned from our field trip and got settled in we had the great reveal of the secret pals.  Once all was revealed the giggles, oohs and aahs lasted for quite a while.  We all had such a good time appreciating each lady’s artistic style and ability. The majority of us had never made a pocket letter, including me.

Once the layouts were revealed on day two more oohs and aahs.  Each layout was gorgeous.  With so much talent in one place for four days we all learned a little something.

With the help and camaraderie of this very special group of ladies the retreat was a huge success. I couldn’t have asked for a better group of ladies.  The retreat turned out better than I hoped or imagined.  I was quite surprised by these ladies.  Several ladies brought lovely hand crafted gifts for everyone in attendance.

Angela

I became very teary as several gifts and cards were handed to me to say thank you for organizing such a nice retreat.  I get teary every time I think about it or look at a card or gift.  These are the things that make it all worthwhile and memorable.  I will never forget those 4 days.

As you read this I hope you will not be afraid of organizing a retreat.  We all had a great time and are already waiting for the new schedule to come out.   Hint, hint Kelly.

Got extra stickers? Try this amazing scrapbook technique!

What can you do with all those mismatched stickers? Paint over them!!!

If you have some stickers that don’t match or you don’t like the color you can easily paint right over them using Dylusions paints and Ranger’s mini ink blending tool! The great part about this is you scrap your stash while making those stickers go further.

Step 1. Put your title down and use the mini ink blending tool to color over the stickers.

Step 2. Your stickers will now work as “double duty”! Pull off the stickers and use the new title on another page!

Extra Stickers on Scrapbook Page

I had fun using the bright bold Dylusions colors on these scrapbook pages. The colors are vibrant and fun! I painted these scrapbook pages using a variety of stencils and Dylusions paints which are sold at Scrap Diva Retreats. Check them out the next time you scrapbook with us.

Scrapbook Blessing Shop Hop

One Hit Wonder Scrapbook Page – On the Boardwalk

One of my favorite parts about the Shop Hop is all the awesome 6X6 scrapbook layouts you get to collect. I used some of the materials from the make-n-takes to create larger 12X12 layouts. It was fun being creative to see how many different looks I could create with the extra scraps.
