Scrap Diva Arrives at CHA 2016 Mega Craft Show & Mixed Media Canvas

Hi everyone, I just arrived at the Convention Center in Anaheim California for the 75th Anniversary CHA Mega Show conference. This is my 3rd time attending the CHA show and this time I plan on doing tons of spontaneous LIVE periscopes so be sure to follow me on #Periscope at @scrapdivakelly if you want to see all the excitement!

This is where over 400+ craft manufactures showcase over 12,000 new products! This is seriously Disneyland for craftahoilcs like myself! I’m so excited to be spending 4 fantastic days checking out all the new supplies and learning from the best designers in the industry. If there’s something you want to see at Scrap Diva Retreats let me know and I can see about buying some for our scrapbook retreat.

I’m thrilled because this year I’ve hired Karen Osborne to assist me with checking out all the awesome new craft supplies so we can share them with you when we come back! The first class we took was an amazing mixed media class taught by Marjie Kemper from New York.

Mixed Media

Marjie Kemper

Marjie was a very “together” teacher, everything was well organized and the class ran smoothly. I’ve seen Marjie’s amazing work online and I was so excited to be taking a class from her in person! I love all the gorgeous colors she uses. WOW… her portfolio is amazing! Take some time to look at her work, it really is a great site. WWW.marjiekemper.com.

Mixed media class

We made these gorgeous 5 x 7 mixed media pieces of art using a canvas board, paints, stamps and fantastic 3d elements. I especially liked adding the earring by punching a hole through he canvas using a cropadile. What a brilliant way to add dimension! I can’t wait to design a similar class to teach at Scrap Diva Retreats!

After the mixed media class I took another amazing class by Helen Bradley and learned some awesome tips on how to take better photos. Here’s a few things I learned tonight about using my DSLR camera:

  • There are 3 things you can control the ISO, F-stop & white balance
  • Inside the showroom floor under fluorescents if you’re taking someone’s portrait you can try the following settings (depending upon the lighting)
    • AV =  Aperture priority
    • White balance = fluorescent
    • ISO = 1600
    • F 5.6
  • The smaller the F-Stop the more light it provides
  • You can set up an easy basic light box to take pictures of crafts with two inexpensive lights with daylight bulbs. Here’s the general settings for this:
    • AV =  Aperture priority
    • White Balance = daylight
    • ISO=200
    • F 3.6 (or lowest)

Take better photos

Be sure to check back tomorrow! I’ve got an phenomenal class itinerary lined up… Are you here at CHA? Tweet me at @scrapdivakelly or #scrapdiva! I would love to meet you 🙂

New Prima Products – Finnabair & Jamie Dougherty

Mixed Media Madness

OMG- I can’t sleep! Visions of mixed media projects are dancing inside my head! Yesterday I took two amazing classes from two of my favorite designers (Jamie Dougherty & Anna Dabrowska) at my favorite local manufacturer- Prima in Chino, California!

It was an amazing way to kick off CHA for 2015!!!

Anna Dabrowska (A.K.A Finnabair) is a mixed media Prima designer who was born in Poland and lives in Ireland. She creates amazing 3-dimensional masterpieces using gesso and paste. I totally love her style. I didn’t get a chance to take enough pictures so I plan on taking more at CHA. Yesterday she shared with us how to use all these products and it was sooooo much fun! I can’t wait to make more and show you how to create phenomenal 3d dimensional masterpieces!

I cannot wait to share with you all the A-M-A-Z-I-N-G mixed media projects and scrapbook pages we can make with these new product lines!!!!  Here’s a short video on some of the new AMAZING modeling pastes and gels Prima just launched. Sorry the video cut out because my phone died.

Prima pastes and gels

I met some amazing new friends from Germany like Ursala & Louise! I just thought of something…. Wouldn’t it be amazing if I could take a sabbatical and travel around the world to all the scrapbook stores and meet amazing artistic women! Ursala “started” the scrapbooking movement in Germany and she’s been attending CHA for the past 11 years!

The possibilities in life are truly amazing! As Mary Oliver wisely asked the world:

What do you want to do with your one wild and precious life?”

Personally I want to try everything!  I’m a life sampler who is in love with everything! Certainly I want to go check out Germany!!

In the meantime… Maybe I will sleep a few more hours. Sweet dreams Scrap Divas…tomorrow will be another amazing adventurous day!
