Hopelessly in Love with Learning

I have fallen madly in love with learning new techniques and reading about social media! At the same time there are some days where I’m completely overwhelmed and yet intrigued with the inspiration that floods me!

When it comes to social media I feel like I’m the new kid on the block and I look at everything with such amazement and wonder. There are soooo many new apps and pieces of technology that I’m completely unfamiliar with. I’m trying to learn how to blog, tweet and use instagram all at the same time. Which means I’m not only reading a ton of books, magazines and blog posts but I’m also trying to read tweets, look at instagram photos and create blog posts… (oh, and I work long hours during the day!!!!)

But regardless of all that…I’m totally intrigued by the HUGE world of social media out there.

I never really understood why people used a hashtag sign “#”or what a retreat “RT” meant but I’m starting to learn… little by little as I devour one book at a time and read one blog after another. As I sit here I wonder to myself how I’ve missed all this excitement since I was living in the “Heart of the Silicon Valley” = San Jose, California for the past decade with all of this social media excitment buzzing around me….

There seems to be a rule book out there for every type of social media. I feel like there is a different language to learn for everything. But its like learning and remembering how to use a foreign language… I need to practice it frequently in order to be fluent in it! On the one hand I have an insatiable thirst for knowledge and on the other hand I feel compelled to share with you everything that I’m learning. It’s so much fun and exciting I can barely contain myself!!!!

Its almost as exciting as when I figured out how to get this “exclusive” Cricut Everyday cartridge! (Almost… I’ll never forget that day! I love that cartridge… I need to create more awesome stuff with it!)

Sorry… I digress…

My head is spinning with all the tips and rules that I’m trying so desperately to understand. There are so many different types of apps that I’ve been reading about that are supposed to help one “manage” social media. I hope to share a few of those tips with you soon my dear reader!

Although I still can’t figure out how to add the plugin to have you follow the blog on my WordPress site nor can I figure out why my photos don’t show up in the feed on Bloglovin… does anyone know?

Both items are definitely on my proverbial “to do” list.

3 Birthday Reflections


I have always been a reflective person. I actually have a stack of diaries as tall as a lamp post. Since I was seven years old, I have been reflecting on my life and setting goals twice a year. I typically write a long list of New Years Resolutions in December and then dedicate a couple weeks around my birthday to reflect on my life milestones.

Day 7 – Feeling Complete

Is meditation difficult? 
Meditation is both hard and simple at the same time. It is similar to the difficulty I encounter with exercising in that ultimately I just have to simply set aside some time and simply “do it.”The first few times I tried to meditate it was difficult to concentrate but it has definitely become easier for me the more I’ve practiced it. The simple part about meditation is that there is not a “wrong” way to meditate and it is beneficial to the body no matter how much it is practiced. Here’s a nice summary on meditation.
Here’s a few tips I’ve learned to make meditating easier:
• Try a guided meditation that you can listen to. Here’s a free sample that you can immediately try.
• Meditate in a quiet area where you are free from distraction (turn off your cell phone)
• If you get distracted keep trying because even a few minutes can be beneficial


Meditation Lesson Day 7 – Feeling Complete

Today we completed the first week of meditation and our happy journey together. During today’s lesson Deepak shared with us the following:

  • True happiness isn’t gained by status, money, position, or power; it is attained through inner fulfillment, which depends on being whole.
  • When we feel complete we don’t have empty spaces inside us that need to be filled.
  • People can find long term happiness when they accomplish something they really value. Typically when they set goals that take years to accomplish. Also,  when they devote themselves to a higher set of values, whether it is with god, compassion, giving, service, or humanitarianism.

 My Reflection

I listened to today’s mediation a few times because I was trying to grasp Deepak’s message on how to remain whole and fill all the empty places inside me. My analytical mind immediately wanted to itemize the empty spaces within me and create a list on how to fill them.

  • What type of activities do I need to do? Exercise, meditate, read, write, create artwork…
  • What long term goals should I achieve? Write a book, travel, volunteer, learn more / teach…
  • How can I devote myself to a higher set of values and contribute to the world?

For today’s artwork, I decided to share with you a page in one of my art journals. I used Tim Holtz Distress Inks for the background and Close to My Heart Stamps.

The page is titled: “Happiness Lives Here” 

“I love making artwork! It centers and calms me. Sometimes I forget this simple fact because I get so excited and caught up in the moment. All I really need to do is BREATHE and let my creative muse handle the details!”
