Our reaction to a situation literally has the power to change the situation itself.
I was on my lunch break when my dashboard started blinking the dreaded sign that indicates I had a flat tire. When I pulled over to the side of the road a wave of emotions passed though me in the blink of an eye.
– I can’t believe this is my third flat tire in 4 weeks!
– I have a meeting in 20 minutes… I don’t have time for this AGAIN
– I’m going to have a nervous breakdown. This is ridiculous.
It’s amazing how you can be “going” through your day and then something stops you dead in your tracks and you must change course. I was completely overwhelmed with yet another flat tire but instead of letting it ruin my entire day, I decided to go on a shopping spree.
I bought a new jacket, some jeans, work-out clothes and a new necklace (ok maybe a few other things). I literally hate shopping because I can’t stop once I start but it got me out of my funk and turned a negative into a positive.
Now I have a funny story about my third flat tire in four weeks!
So the next time you have something negative happen try to to find a positive way to react to it. Check out this awesome chart I found on Pinterest on 20 ways you can turn a negative into a positive.
Have you had anything negative happen this year that you were able to turn positive?
