Day 6 – Feeling Hope

During today’s meditation Deepak described hope like a thread that can lead us out of any maze. It is a powerful force that lights our path and connects us to freedom. Hope summons the future. The more hope you have the more optimistic you feel and the more open you will be to new opportunities.

Day 5 – Feeling Playful – Listen to your inner child!

Today is day 5 of our 21 Day Happy Adventure together! Feel free to follow along at any time. You can read more information in the first blog post here.

I was trying my best to dedicate 21 consecutive days to meditating with Oprah and posting a new piece of artwork each day…. but I have to be honest with you. I’ve fallen behind slightly and I’m behind on my blog posts. Nevertheless, I hope to finish the blog posts with you. It has been a fun adventure thus far and I’m learning a lot.

During today’s meditation we learned about the benefits of being playful and how play helps connect us to our joyful self. We learned how to listen to our own inner child and bring more fun and joy into our daily life. During the lesson, Deepak reminded us  that through the expression of play, our hearts, minds and bodies are lighter and happier. Play is essential to rejuvenation.

Today’s centering thought: Being playful renews the spirit.

For today’s piece of artwork I decided to showcase a mixed media canvas board that I made while taking an online mixed media course by Kelly Rae Roberts called “Hello, Soul Hello Mantras.” I had such a fabulous time taking her class and learned how to simply play with paints. I highly recommend it if  you get the chance!

I titled this piece “Listen to your inner child at PLAAY.” I found it slightly ironic that I accidentally added an extra A in the word “play.” Once I saw it though… I thought it was a “happy accident” that ended up reinforcing the playful concept.

Here’s the first layers of paint and collage paper. You can see how I started off with some goblin paper with warm colors.

Just Play - The first layer As I was playing around with the papers and colors I decided to add cooler tones and added Dorothy with some unicorns dancing into the sunset.

I enhanced the canvas by having the Goblins peak out behind more layers of paint.

Throughout the canvas I have words such as “laugh” and “giggle” hidden behind the paint layers.

The title “Play” was added last….. of course I played around with the word “play” until it felt right…

I think that finding a way to remain playful is key to enjoying life fully. Recently I’ve been playing around with tons of paint colors to learn how to create mixed media pieces without having a destination in mind.

As I randomly added paint layers to the canvas below I painted messages such as “release” and “let go” to remind myself to free up creative energy. When I let go of how I wanted the painting to turn out, I was able to spend more time having fun and being playful with the process. Instead of letting my left mind think about the process too much, I let my right brain follow my heat and encourage the painting to emerge itself.

Day 4 – Feeling Love

Every day I plan on meditating and using a new Close to My Heart stamp set.

Wild About Love
Today I used the February CTMH stamp set called “Wild About Love.” I thought it was appropriate since our meditation today was about feeling love. The colors used in the sample are “Cotton Candy” and “Gypsy.”

I was having fun playing with some different techniques to see which one I liked best. Below I stamped different versions with some heat embossing powders.

Love you Foxy

During meditation today we learned the path to happiness is best accomplished by releasing preconceived notions of love. Instead of thinking of love in terms of something we “seek,” we can shift our concept of love to something we “are.” Instead of wanting and searching for love outside ourselves, we can simply make a paradigm shift to understand that “we are love.”

Deepak teaches us that once we are able to discover that love is the core of our true self, then we can transform “I want love” into “I am love.” This is something that can never be taken away from us. As our  awareness expands, we can begin to recognize that we are connected to everything.

Our centering thought for today is: I am Love

What a liberating concept to know that I don’t need to continually seek out love that simply put… “I am love.” I haven’t quite captured this awareness in my heart yet but it was liberating to meditate on it and try my best to comprehend it. Personally, I have always thought of love in terms of:

  • How can I love myself?
  • How can I love someone else?
  • How can I make someone else love me?

The journal prompt today invited us to think about how this shift could change the way we relate to other people. I think that this new way of thinking  could move me away from my need for giving and receiving love into a more open concept of simply “being” love. This frees me up to radiate love more openly.

 

Day 3 Feeling Peace / Always Be Yourself Unless You Can Be a Unicorn

Every day I plan on meditating and using a new Close to My Heart stamp set.

Today I used the CTMH stamp set called “Unicorn Dreams.” I absolutely love these adorable unicorn stamps! It was so much fun to create the rainbow stamp.

During the meditation today we learned how to feel a deep sense of peace from within. Deepak taught us that a strong “spiritual peace is our calm center that keeps our life in balance.”

Sometimes when I meditate I feel a strong sense of peace and well being, while other times I struggle to sit still. Today was a bit more difficult to settle my thoughts. Nevertheless, I know the benefits of meditating daily are worth the practice and struggle. Does anyone else occasionally struggle to keep thoughts from flooding in when meditating?

The centering thought for today is:

I am peace.

Today I used the new CTMH stamp set called “Have a Happy Day.”  I had a lot of fun making this sample and playing around with the new colors “Thistle” and “Glacier”. This  stamp set comes with 19 different stamps and would be great for making a wide variety of cards and scrapbook pages. I used some  adorable Thistle stripped ribbon to spice up the layout.

Meditation Lesson Day 2 – Feeling Inspired

During reflection on the meditation today think about what inspires you and how you can be filled with inspiration every day.

The centering thought for today is: I am filled with spirit.

Last night I made this cute layout using my “Happy Birds” stamp set from the new Close to My Heart catalog. I think I’m going to try and make a sample for each stamp set. Wouldn’t that be cool? Ohhhh I’m so happy thinking about playing with each of my stamp sets every day!

Meditation Lesson Day 1 – Feeling Joy

  • Happiness comes from within and is already a part of me. I don’t need to go searching for it. At any moment I can just choose to feel joy and recognize bliss.
  • There is no limit to my happiness and as I learn to grow in happiness then I can’t help but share this with others

Reflection: Identify three intentions for the next 3 weeks

  1. I would like to be able to find joy within myself, in moments of sadness or discontent I would like to find my way back to myself. Find my happy pill.
  2. I would like to replace moments of boredom with bliss.
  3. I would like to share happiness with others.

The centering thought for today is:
Happiness is my true nature.

I’ve had that “Happy” song in my head all day and I can’t stop smiling…

Live in The Moment – A Poem and Photo Collection

5 Ways to Live In The Moment & Jump Start your Inspiration:

Here’s a few tips to get you inspired by nature and simply live in the moment.

  1. Listen to the sounds surrounding you –  Take a walk in your neighborhood and listen to all the sounds. See how many distinct noises you can pick out and think about how busy nature is going about its business. Feel the energy of life itself. Listen to your own breath.  Duck taking flight
  2. Walk Barefoot in the Grass – Take your shoes off and feel the tingle of grass between your toes. Imagine you are a young child frolicking in the grass barefoot without any care in the world. Simply feel the squishy texture of each step.  Walk Barefoot in the Grass
  3. Climb a Tree – Go ahead and climb an old oak tree the way you used to do as a kid. Touch the roughness of the bark and look at the ants making their way slowly up the side.  Tree
  4. Stop to smell a beautiful flower – When was the last time you stopped to smell bougainvillea? Most varieties have little or no scent but some smell like honeysuckle! Seriously take some time to stop and smell the roses… or bougainvillea… Bouganvilla & Statue
  5. Soak up the colors and beauty of the world around you – On your journey take a look at how many beautiful colors surround you. Take some pictures of images that may inspire your scrapbooks or art journals. Be sure to jot down any inspirational ideas that come your way.

I invite you on a journey I took one sunny summer afternoon when I decided to take a stroll and simply live in the moment. It was a day I had all to myself and I decided to take a walk near our lovely apartment in La Jolla, San Diego. During my mindful walk I was inspired by the nature around me and wrote a short poem.

A Moment in Time

Thank you God for this moment, thank you for each breath

The brisk feeling of the wind on my cheek

The sound of a bird chirping

A jet blasting off in the distance

A small animal moving behind me

A work truck making its journey

A child crying

The stream trickling

A fountain running

A butterfly fluttering around

A moth

A duck taking flight

The wind rustling through the trees

A blade of grass

A small bug landing on my foot

God you are so close to me I can feel your presence in everything

It is great to smell, see, hear and feel you

It is phenomenal to simply relax, take a long walk and listen to the world around me

Thank you for the sensory overload of all your winged creatures:

Butterflies, humming birds, moths, and ducks

A bee takes a moment to taste pollen that has fallen onto the sidewalk

The rustle of an American flag

Right now is perfect

I feel the energy around me

I am abundantly content

These words do not adequately express this moment. It is grand.

What does being a possibilitarian mean to you?

To me it means that anything is possible, even my wildest dreams….even the wild dreams that I haven’t even considered yet! Here’s a few wild dreams I had last night:

♥  What if I take a vacation to Costa Rica next year with Flora Bowley, Kelly Rae Roberts and other artists to paint and inspire my soul?

♥  What if I wrote an autobiography that demonstrated the American rags to riches story and showed how someone from humble beginnings could achieve their wildest dreams…

♥  What if i created a blog with inspirational content that attracted a worldwide audience to pursue their dreams & realize it is possible to accomplish wild aspirations?

♥  What if I developed a female entrepreneur group that provided mentorship and support to one another?

♥  What if I created a program for “at risk” female youths that incorporated dream visualization, artwork and action planning into a system focused on enhancing self esteem and accomplishing big dreams?

♥  What if I created a series of positive affirmations/mantra art that was licensed and then mass reproduced on canvases, greeting cards and other merchandise to spread positive energy with the world?

♥  What if Oprah Winfrey wants to interview me because she is amazed by my positive energy, thrilled with my inspirational work and intrigued by my Autobiography?

I Believe I Can Fly

” I believe I can Fly”

In one of my reoccurring dreams as a child… I would fly. I would soar high above the world and soar into the clouds. Flying, wings and birds are all themes that frequently show up in my artwork. I’m taking an awesome online class by Ali Edwards called “One Little Word” and one of our assignments for March was to create a collage that was inspired by our word for the year.

My word for 2014 is Inspire.

This part of my collage says “Discover all the possibilities Live with gratitude”. This year I have found a lot of gratitude and it seems the more I recognize everything that I have to be grateful for, the more blessings come my way. This life is a miraculous, inspirational journey and I’m extremely grateful to be sharing it with all of you.

Inspired by Extraordinary Optimism

Optimism is one of those amazing gems that allows us to recognize we all have a choice how we view each situation. Think of all the miraculous opportunities and possibilities that can come your way when you view a situation with Extraordinary Optimism.

Think of how inspired you will be! Optimism is free it doesn’t cost anything.  When you walk into a room wearing optimism you are wearing confidence and since you are expecting a favorable outcome you have the power of intention to influence the situation.

op·ti·mism: “a disposition or tendency to look on the more favorable side of events or conditions and to expect the most favorable outcome”

 

Extraordinary Optimism is what opens hidden doors and it is often the magical key to open up hidden opportunities. It opens your heart and soul up to unlimited possibilities.

Believe in yourself

Believe that everything happens for a reason

Believe that whatever happens to you no matter how difficult it may seem… it is truly “the best thing that could happen to you”. Because if you truly believe this then your possibilities in life are endless.

Always believe in yourself and believe in the power of your dreams!
